Roy Harvey Pearce (1919-2012), one of the founders of the UC San Diego Literature Department, was a renowned scholar of American Literature whose many books, articles, editorial projects, and lectures contributed to the crossing of history, social sciences and literature that are a primary feature of American Studies today.
