- Information found: p. 624 (Bulbs. The term bulb, when used in a horticultural sense, does not have the narrow connotation attributed to it by botanists. To the horticulturist the word bulb suggests such plant parts are corms, tubers, and thickened rhizomes, as well as actual bulbs. Most of the plants arising from these structures are simple stemmed perennials. Many are monocots, but not all. For example, dahlias are dicots as are tuberous begonias. Generally, bulbs are divided into two groups, spring and summer bloomers. Most spring flowering bulbs require a cold period and are limited to areas of minimal to extensive frost.)
